Gotcha Day!

Micah in Guatemala 4 1/2 months old (7/11/2005)

It is so hard to believe that 3 years ago we were arriving home from Guatemala with our brand new baby boy!  We celebrated Micah's Gotcha Day on July 11.  Gotcha Day is the day set aside that we celebrate Micah's official adoption day!  A forever family day!  Whereas we had known in our hearts he was our son for months, on that day the Guatemalan Embassy ruled that he was officially our son.  We have talked to Micah very openly about his adoption over the last 3 years.  We want him to deeply understand God's love for him and His perfect plan for his life.  How that plan included a biological family and his forever family.  We want so much for Micah to understand God's heart for adoption:  that adoption is God's idea, not God's second choice for families.  How there has never been an unwanted adopted child... it is a very intentional love.  God has a perfect plan for Micah, and we are so glad that it includes us!

Over the last week we have talked quite a bit about adoption preparing for Gotcha Day.  Our hearts were so warmed this week when Micah informed us that "adoption means that Jesus makes us a family." AMEN!  Oh how humbling it is to be parents.  There are so many times we feel like we are failing.  So many times we talk and feel like no one listens!  Then every now and then we get a glimpse of their little hearts' understanding.  It's in these moments that we get the strength to press on.  Adoption is not for the faint of heart.  There are so many questions we  will still face.  I am thankful that at the core, Micah understands that Jesus makes usa  family!  This is a great foundation for us to continue building upon.

Thank you to all of you that love and care for us as a family.  Thank you for so many of you that  gave of yourselves financially for us to adopt, prayed Micah home, and continue to encourage our growth as a family.  Please continue to join us as we pray about another adoption.  In the same conversation I mentioned above, Micah told us he needs another little sister, Olivia.  Ha!  We told him to talk to Jesus about that one!  We are talking to Jesus about where/when/how Smitty #3 may come to us.   We'll keep you posted!

Here are some pics walking down memory lane!  We love you Micah!  You are a joy to be around and a light for all to see!

My face lit up when I saw that picture. His smile is so big! You guys have such a beautiful family. Micah will understand things from the heart of God in a much deeper way than a lot of people will because of having an experiential revelation in his life. It is such a blessing how God has weaved all of the things in you all's life together. God has a big plan for you guys. May you continue to know God's grace more and more each day through all situations that you encounter.

Happy belated Gotcha Day to the Smitty family! How sweet that you celebrate that every year, what a wonderful idea! And that's so neat, what Micah said. There's proof you are doing a great job as parents!
